Many activities are related to each other. For example, a Prayer Walk may lead to a Gospel Conversation that leads to an ongoing series of Discipleship or Training activities.  Through Chaining, GAPP allows you to link these activities together to see the progress of the Lord’s work.

Chained activity aggregation in the summary cards is still under construction.

When should you use chaining?

Chaining can help you see patterns of Great Commission impact over time, which helps to inform your team’s strategy. Though GAPP will allow chaining between any activities, in general, you should chain to an activity if it led directly to the next activity. For example, if you showed a gospel film to 50 people, and then had gospel conversations with 7 of them, you would chain that gospel conversation activity (or activities if they were separate conversations) to the showed a film activity.

In another example, if you trained the same 5 people two weeks in a row, you should add the second training to the first as a recurring activity so that the number being trained is not double counted.

Likewise, if you shared the gospel with the same person several times, you should chain those activities together to prevent double counting the number of people who heard.

On the other hand, if two activities were unrelated, even though they may have happened on the same day or in the same place, you probably would not want to chain them.

There are several ways to get to the Chaining function, but here is the most basic.

To Chain an Activity in GAPP:

  1. Click on your Team under the “My Teams” area of the screen.

  2. From the menu under your team name, click on Activities

  3. If needed, the Filter bar at the top allows you to filter your Activities to find the one you are looking for.

  4. Click on the Activity you want to chain a new Activity to, and information about that activity will open up.

  5. Click the “Chain Activity” button.

  6. Choose the Core Task and Activity you want to chain and click to add the Activity.

    1. An Activity dialogue will open. The top of the new dialogue box screen will indicate the new Activity is “Chained” to the previous Activity.

      1. You can click on this “Chained From” Activity to verify the details. Then click done at the bottom of the box to return to the new Activity.

  7. Complete the answers to the Activity as you would normally and click Submit.

You can also chain directly from many activities when you submit them

You have created the next link in what is, prayerfully, many Chains of recording the Lord’s work among all peoples and places!
